This was the Pow Wow – Senior Men’s Dance winner, a powerful athletic dancer, who I was able to catch in the hop motion. I remember he was smiling and had the widest grin at the end. I would have used him for a subject sooner, but I have trouble with high chroma greens, the colour of his regalia.
This painting was the first used with Brayer and Wax brushes made by Heather Chin, as well as her full bleed textures. As well, this has been an experiment with colour change and harmony. The original photo, background grasses and regalia, were iridescent green. For me, the most difficult colour to hide, blend, or print.
